Principal’s Weekly Update

Dear Families and Caregivers,

Memorial Day, a day that grew out of an ancient custom of decorating soldiers’ graves (as early as 1861), now seems to be a day that marks the unofficial start of summer. I just wanted to remind everyone that the many people who bravely fought and gave their lives for this country somehow touch us all. So, while we look to the long weekend ahead, even though this year it will look and feel very different, please remember to take a moment to pause and reflect with gratitude the freedoms that endure in the USA.

“We’re In This Together” Project – I am so excited to share that we will be delivering over 100 lawn signs, sometime in early June. What an overwhelmingly positive response to our project. There is still time to order if you want one. Click here for the form The last day to order is Sunday, May 24th. Remember, we are charging $20 for the sign and half will go toward another collection for Toni’s Kitchen. If you are able to, feel free to donate more than $20 because anything above $10 will go toward the donation. If you already ordered and have not completed payment, please take a moment to do so.  We want to be sure we have all monies accounted for when we donate to Toni’s Kitchen.

Eco Fair 2020 “Distancing Style” – I am happy to announce that the PTA’s Eco Team along with very creative volunteers, have come up with a digital version of our annual Eco Fair. See the attached pdf for all the details. While your child is not riding a bike to power a blender, there are plenty of activities they can engage in. If you’d like anything your child does posted on Instagram, feel free to send the pictures to your grade level’s contact.

5th Grade “Clap Out” – It’s tradition at CHB to clap out our 5th graders on their Moving Up day. For those new to Bullock, what that entails is all classes lining the halls of CHB and clapping as the 5th graders process into the gym for their Moving Up ceremony. This year, in order to give them as close to a clap out as possible, all classroom teachers will be setting up a Google Meet or Zoom session where we can record the students clapping for the 5th graders to be included in their virtual ceremony. Please know that we will be sharing this video with all 5th grade families. If you do not wish your child to participate and/or their image used in the ceremony, please turn your video off during the taping of the “clapping.” Your classroom teacher will inform you of the day and time for your class.

Looking to September – No one knows yet what school will look like in September. I can assure you that Montclair’s senior administrators are having ongoing discussions about different re-entry plans. They are also keeping to county deadlines of submitting proposals while waiting for guidelines from the State. I realize that the “not knowing” provokes anxiety in an already stressful time. Please know that I and/or the District will share information as soon as it is available.

Movers: At this time of year, Central Office always asks to be informed if any family is considering moving out of district. If this applies to you, please email Marty Turlin at so that she can submit your names to the registrar’s office.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Please let us know if you need anything. Remember, we are in this together. Stay safe and healthy.

Warmest Regards,
