1st Grade

Currently in math, first graders are exploring word problems, using patterns to solve number grid puzzles, missing addends as well as strategies to solve mixed math facts with automaticity

Writers are writing teaching books about topics in which they are experts. They continue to use editing as an ongoing process by focusing on punctuation, using upper/lowercase letters and words wall words correctly.

Readers have immersed themselves in the world of nonfiction. While we spent the first part of the school year learning how to read, readers are now reading to learn. They are navigating text features as well as learning to connect their prior knowledge with new information.

In science, the first graders have been busy exploring all things night time related. In conjunction with nonfiction reading, the students are exposed to nocturnal animals, phases of the  moon, day/night time activities and characteristics of space.
