October featured not one but two important cultural holidays. Our recognition of
Hispanic Heritage Month concluded with a special presentation sponsored by the PTA, “Musiquita.” Students in all grades were immersed in this English and Spanish assembly that featured singing and dancing. Several classes learned about
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, through read-alouds and activities facilitated by our parent volunteers.

The month also began with the
Week of Respect. Students focused on how to respect others, respect differences, our school, our community, and ourselves, as well as how to prevent harassment, intimidation, and bullying situations. The Week of Respect also emphasized the importance of character education and strategies on how to be compassionate, thoughtful, caring people in and outside of school. Students and staff spread kindness and compassion by dressing up in themes and participating in a schoolwide project.
We were happy to recognize
National Custodian Day and our awesome team for their hard work and dedication to keeping our building and grounds looking great. We are grateful for all they do for CHB.
Third graders had a busy month, hosting a soiree in honor of completing their reading of
The Wind in the Willows, by British novelist Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. It tells the story of Mole, Ratty and Badger as they try to help Mr. Toad after he becomes obsessed with motorcars and gets into trouble. The novel explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and the conflict between tradition and progress. Students were dressed in their fanciest attire and enjoyed special snacks.
The third grade also participated in the
release of the butterflies that have been growing in their classrooms. Having learned about the lifecycle of a butterfly – from egg to larva to chrysalis to its adult metamorphosis, the butterflies were ready to fly into the world. Students gathered in the CHB garden to take turns holding them before letting them go.
Sponsored by the PTA, CHB had its very own
Pumpkin Patch on a beautiful, sunny fall day where every student was able to walk through and pick their very own pumpkin.
CHB concluded the month with its annual
Halloween Parade! The building theme was The Wizard of Oz with Team Pink and Team Green representing! While it was a bit windy, students and staff paraded in front of the the building showing off their fun and creative costumes.
